What do we do?
What Is Biokinetics?
Biokinetics is a specialised healthcare profession that uses scientifically based exercise to improve movement, reduce pain, and restore physical function. Originating in South Africa, it is now recognised globally, including in countries such as Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom.
Biokinetics focuses on functional rehabilitation. This means helping you regain strength, mobility, and confidence after injury or surgery, or while managing chronic pain or physical limitations.
What is Physiotherapy?
Physiotherapy is a healthcare profession focused on diagnosing and treating injury, pain, and dysfunction of the musculoskeletal system. It plays a key role in the early stages of recovery by reducing pain, inflammation, swelling, and restoring basic movement and function.
Physiotherapy often includes hands-on treatment, manual therapy, pain management techniques, and early movement retraining to help the body heal and return to safe function.

Biokinetics and Physiotherapy: How they work together
A common question we are asked is what the difference is between a biokineticist and a physiotherapist.
Physiotherapists typically manage the acute phase of injury or surgery. Their role is to reduce pain, control inflammation, restore mobility, and stabilise the injured area.
Biokineticists guide the rehabilitation phase that follows. This involves progressive exercise to rebuild strength, improve movement patterns, correct imbalances, and reduce the risk of future injury.
Together, these two professions form a complete continuum of care. From initial injury, through recovery, and back to full function and performance.

Our Approach: The Art of Movement Retraining
At Traverse Health, we believe that restoring movement is both a science and a skill. Rehabilitation is not about generic exercises. It is about targeted intervention based on biomechanics, data, and your unique body.
Movement is our form of medicine.
Whether you are recovering from injury, managing a chronic condition, or working towards better performance, our role is to guide you with clarity, structure, and measurable progress.
We follow a structured three-step process for every client.
1. Assessment:
Every client journey begins with a thorough assessment. During this session, we take time to understand your medical and training history, lifestyle factors, and personal goals. We ask targeted questions to build a clear clinical picture. This is followed by a posture analysis, flexibility and strength testing, and a detailed review of your movement biomechanics. This baseline helps us design a programme tailored to you.
2. Intervention:
Once we’ve completed the assessment, we develop a personalised exercise programme based on your needs, goals, and test results. This plan typically includes mobility work, strength-building exercises, and targeted muscle or myofascial release techniques. No two programmes are the same — every intervention is designed to meet you where you are and help you progress safely and effectively.
3. Retesting:
Approximately one month into your programme, we conduct a follow-up assessment using the same tests from your initial session. This helps us track your progress and identify what’s working. Based on your results, we refine your programme to keep you moving forward. Our goal is to ensure every phase of your rehabilitation is measured, intentional, and results-driven.
